The Event

Imagine up to 100 big, multi-colored rubber balls  bouncing down Main Street in downtown Carbondale being kicked by youth soccer players during First Friday on September 6th! 
Get ready for the second annual Running of the Balls, brought to you by Ace Hardware of Carbondale and benefiting Carbondale Rotary! Purchase adoption tickets for only $10 apiece for a chance to win the grand prize of $5,000
Look for tickets for sale from our Rotarians and Mt. Sopris Rotary Club andCity Market Carbondale outside Ace Hardware in Carbondale at select times and through our youth non-profit partners, Ascendigo, Roaring Fork Soccer Club and YouthZone!

The Cause

The Running of the Balls is a one-of-a-kind event in support of the service work of Rotary Club of Carbondale. Each ticket is tax-deductible and all proceeds after expenses fund our scholarships for local high school students, our local non-profit donations, and service projects both here in Carbondale and worldwide through Rotary International. 

First Friday Fun!

Plans for the Running of the Balls event include a kids fun run (the Running of the Kids), ball games, clowns and more! It all culminates when the balls are launched all at once then kick down Main Street by local youth soccer players. Will your ticket match the first two balls to cross the finish line? Come see for yourself!

Tentative Schedule of Festivities:

6:00pm - Running of the Kids Fun Run

Immediately After - The Running of the Balls down Main Street

6:30pm - Festival - contests, kids games in the 4th street plaza

7:30pm - Announcement of winner

The Details

The Rotary Club of Carbondale is part of Rotary International, a worldwide service organization with 1.2 million volunteer members. Rotary members embody the spirit of “Service above Self.” Rotary Club of Carbondale is a 501 (c)3 non-profit organization and tickets for the Running of the Balls are tax-deductible.

The total number of balls raced depends on the number of tickets sold. Ticket costs are as follows:
  • 1 ticket for $10
  • 3 tickets for $20
  • 5 tickets for $30
  • 10 tickets for $50
  • 25 tickets for $100

Each ticket will be assigned two unique ball numbers by computer. If those two numbers match the first two balls in the ball trap finish sequentially, you are the winner of the $5,000 first place prize. Positive identification will be required for all prizes won.

Please note that members, employees, agents and assignees of the Rotary Club of Carbondale, its advertising agencies involved in the race as resident Rotary family and household members shall be ineligible to win prizes associated with this race.

Additional prizes include:

  • A prize package including a 2 night stay for two people at the Gant Aspen, lift tickets for 2 days at Aspen Snowmass and $100 gift certificate at Tatonka Restaurant.
  • 2 20-punch passes to the Carbondale Rec Center.
