The Carbondale Rotary Club proudly presented ten outstanding local high school seniors with $1,000 scholarships to put towards their college tuition at the weekly Club meeting this past Wednesday morning, May 14th at the Carbondale Fire Station. The students were chosen out of a field of 38 applicants based on their academic record, their demonstrated need and their commitment to Rotary’s Four Way Test and motto of Service Above Self. Seven recipients currently attend Basalt High School and three go to Roaring Fork High School.

Basalt High School recipients:Lindsay Anderson, Carling Robinson, Doris Carballo, Thomas Wirth, Jordan Banc, Maria Esquivel, Cintia Miramontes

Roaring Fork High School recipients:Zoe Hanlon, Chelsey Serrano, Paige Gianinetti

The Scholarship Committee chair Jim Kenney invited the students and their parents to join the Club for the presentation and each student spoke briefly about where they’re going to school next, their plans for the future and their appreciation for the support.

“It’s one of the most rewarding things we do as a Club,” said Carbondale Rotary President Elect Alan Cole. “Seeing these kids make the most of themselves and knowing that the community stands behind them makes our efforts totally worthwhile.”

Members of the public interested in joining Carbondale Rotary Club are invited to contact Club President Ed Queenan at (401) 465-4276 or queenan.edward@gmail.com. The Club meets every Wednesday morning at 6:45am.
